Duties:
The Behavior Specialist serves as a member of the clinical team under the direct supervision of a Clinician or Program Director. Assists Clinician in the coordination and provision of support services to clients. Implements and documents interventions identified in the treatment plan. Provides youth with therapeutic support services such as recreation, life skills training, problem solving skills and anger management skills. Models professional behavior, demonstrates rapport-building and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients. Responds to client crisis with prescribed procedures for de-escalation, crisis management and behavior management. Demonstrates a trauma-informed response to clients based on Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) guidelines. Consults, coordinates and collaborates with the clinician, treatment team and other allied professional staff on issues of behavior management, crisis intervention, and understanding the nature of client’s problems. Participates in and accept supervision as scheduled with clinical leaders. Conforms to CTS standards and codes of conduct. Supports clients through facilitating the client’s participation in group and community activities and provides alternative settings and means to explore clinical issues while using direct care interventions based on treatment goals and objectives. Observes client behaviors to identify developing issues and obstacles to meeting treatment goals. Communicates observations both verbally and in writing using prescribed formats and terminology. Supports contacts with school system, medical and other professionals involved with the client’s case. Ensures that client’s basic needs are met and makes client safety a primary goal. Enacts CTS core values of culturally competent, ethical, professional behavior with a dedication to excellence. Follows Agency policies and procedures regarding work practices and expectations. Ensures client health and medical care needs are met according to Bureau of Licensing regulations. Reports directly to the House Manager.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a social science with one year of relevant experience, or High School Diploma and three to five years of relevant experience.
