Painter-Patcher/Maintenance Mechanic

Duties:
Under general supervision, perform journey level work in the painting, finishing, and maintenance of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures: may direct the work of other classified staff in the area; prepare surfaces for painting and finishing; apply undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mix and match paints and finishes; advise in the selection and storage of painting materials. Perform related work to include drywall installation, and other trades work related to facilities maintenance. May be assigned to alternate regional areas. Prepare, prime, sand, seal, patch and paint furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy water-proofing and heat resistant finishes. Tape, flush, repair and apply texturing, wallpaper, and acoustic layers on a variety of surfaces. Adjust colors when necessary; utilizes enhanced finishing skills when appropriate. Apply materials to new construction, existing, multi-story buildings, alterations, and remodelings. Graffiti response and removal using a variety of available products and soda blasting. Operate, clean and maintain all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers and electrostatic sprayers, pumps, etc. Safely store and label all materials. Maintain and repair soda blasting compressor and accessories. May perform construction, renovation or rehabilitation of Agency facilities. May at times provide necessary care to grounds, to include lawns, trees, shrubbery and flowers. Remove snow and ice when required. Estimate time and materials required; keep computerized records and submit reports of work performed. Erect scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Estimate and submit a list of necessary materials when not on hand. Offer assistance and advice on materials, designs, and color. Maintain appropriate service and repair records. Assist and serve as back up to other Facilities employees. Assist with special events. Provide emergency, on –call coverage when needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
High School diploma plus 3 years’ experience in institutional or commercial painting and hands-on maintenance, renovation and rehabilitation of buildings and equipment. Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC is highly desirable. Must be familiar with local, state and Federal codes to include BOCA, OSHA and NFPA. Valid driver’s license a must with good driving record. Specialized training, license, or experience in a particular trade is preferred.
Hours:
Full time, Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and emergency on-call coverage as needed. Overtime may be required based on demands of the Agency. Considered Essential Personnel and must report for work in all weather conditions.
