The mission of the Mary A. Dobbins School is to provide a therapeutic and academic environment that is designed to nurture the emotional, intellectual, behavioral, and social growth of each student. Mary A. Dobbins school prepares students with disabilities to lead successful, productive lives, allowing them to become contributing members of their communities. Our students explore their talents, build on identified strengths, and learn life skills.
Students are carefully evaluated to ensure that their individualized programs meet their specific needs and develop their skills. Educational programs focus on student achievement in academics, behavior, self-help skills, fine and gross motor coordination, and transition planning. Review of each student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) is an ongoing process involving students, clinicians, teachers, and the school’s administration.
Academics are a priority at the Mary A. Dobbins School. Curriculum is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and takes into account students’ abilities and present educational levels. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The school also offers Art, Physical Education, Health, and access to several online learning platforms.
Mary A. Dobbins offers small classes with a high staff/student ratio to ensure individual attention and active participation in learning. Extended School Year (ESY) program is also offered.
