Mary A. Dobbins School is a state approved private special education school that serves students age 10-21 in grades 5 through 12. The school delivers a comprehensive education program to best meet the personal academic, behavioral and social needs of its student population as specified in each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Student IEPs are developed cooperatively by the sending school district and Mary A. Dobbins School staff at child study team meetings.
Each classroom is limited to 12 students with three instructors, one certified teacher and two classroom aides who provide small group and individualized instructional guidance to students according to their cognitive levels. The school instructs students in high school and middle school courses of study that include the major subject areas of mathematics, science, language arts and social studies, in addition to physical education and health, life skills, Spanish, art, computers, cosmetology and culinary arts. The school also provides services in areas of clinical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. We specialized in serving students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The school has a six week Extended Year Program during the months of July and August, whereby remedial education and vocational opportunities are offered to students both on and off campus.
